SDG was the Architect of Record for the renovation of the UAW-Ford National Programs Center which included a multitude of projects to create a world-class headquarters for UAW-Ford employees. Among these projects were renovations to the auditorium and other assembly spaces, as well as to nine floors of offices to create unique working spaces, with each floor having its own distinct character and style. Additionally, SDG designed the NPC’s “Glass Box” which created a new window encased breakout and exhibit space at the street level of the facility.
As the Architect of Record, SDG oversaw critical improvements and infrastructure upgrades for the conference and exhibition center, including significant roofing replacement, enhanced electrical power, plumbing, HVAC, lighting and vertical transportation upgrades. SDG served as architect for the 1980’s Cobo Center expansion, and in addition to the 2010-2015 renovations, continues to provide significant architectural and design services to the facility.
SDG provided services from programming through construction administration for the key automaker initiative. The entire interior and exterior of the facility have undergone major renovations. The facility renovations create a state of the art training facility for UAW workers, and sleek technology focused offices and corporate spaces. The new facility is set to be a model for future training locations through its technology and design, as well as its apprenticeship program. SDG is the Architect of Record for this project.
